Did You Lose Friends When You Coupled Up?

I just broke up with a good friend over the weekend. Long story short: She got a boyfriend, she got serious, she canceled on plans numerous times, and I needed pals I could trust.

It was tough and we both cried, just like a real breakup. Which is why it makes me bittersweet to report on recent research from Oxford University that found that we tend to lose two friends every time we enter a serious romantic relationship.

Yikes! But also understandable, especially as we get older and our romantic partners aren't necessarily in the same social circle. When I get involved with someone, I try to make time for my pals, but some things: girls nights, Gossip Girl watching marathons, early Saturday spin classes fall by the wayside. I think the best thing is to make the concerted effort to see pals, but then also to realize that maybe your friendship worked better when you were both single.

I think that was the case with me and my friend. A large part of our friendship centered on the fact that we were single, and we weren't entirely happy about it. And I really do wish her the best. It's still . . . breaking up is hard to do!

Have you ever had a best friend breakup? And how did you keep friends when you got close to your partner?

Who Are All the Celebs Cheating On?

Tiki Barber. Ashton Kutcher and David Beckham (allegedly). And, of course, Tiger.

What is up with all these men? Is it that guys in the spotlight have more chances of being caught cheating—what with paparazzi cameras everywhere, the fact that women who sleep with celebs are offered big bucks to kiss and tell, and that the 24/7 news cycle is desperate for something—or is it something more endemic in American culture?

Obviously, cheating is nothing new—but since when has cheating been a viable career path for women who crave the spotlight?

This is kind of old, but Tiki Barber's mistress, Traci Johnson, told all in her own words about her affair. Here's what she said:

This stumbling, well let’s be honest, in my case, falling flat on my face, was a recurrent theme in my relationship history. Scars and bruises of my past ill-fated trips down lover’s lane are ever present in my mind, so when I began dating my current boyfriend in the beginning of January 2010 I was optimistic, yet cautious.
